The above quote comes from Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. I suggest you read it, or at least watch the episode of The Simpsons based around it (Season 2, episode 3, ‘Treehouse of Horror I).

However, the purpose of the quote wasn’t to promote Poe or The Simpsons. It was to start off this article, which is to discuss our faded European dreams.

While some people had expected Gareth Bale and Jack Wilshere to win the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards respectively, it came as a shock to many others. Myself included.
